Absinthe Served at Local Bars

Absinthe continues to grow in popularity, at least here in San Francisco. I was down in the mission somewhere by 16th and Valencia when I decided to find a nice little dive bar to stop in to. I had an hour to kill before a show I was going to was starting. The bar had a great selection of beers and drinks that are pretty rare, local, and delicious.

I was pretty bored so I was doing some hardcore people watching and scanning their drink selections when I saw something strange.

I noticed a samovar looking glass case full of ice and water. I did not think of it much until a guy next to me ordered some absinthe. I was very impressed that this bar took it serious. I am not sure what the brand of absinthe was but they used the right glass. They poured about 1/3 of the cup. The bartender then used an absinthe spoon, placed it on top of the glass with a sugar cube. He used that odd looking ice container to pour it over the sugar cube and into the glass.

The result was a beautiful glass of absinthe. I noticed people talking about it with the usual ignorant comments like.

I heard that stuff makes you crazy.

That drink taste like crap anyway.

I though it was illegal to serve.

Stupid people hahaha.
